MEET THE COACH!

KELLY MCKINNON, MS, RD, CSSD, LD, CPT, CF-L1, USAW L1

Kelly is a sports dietitian, personal trainer, CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, and Olympic Lifting Coach. She is passionate about educating and empowering individuals so that they feel confident in their own abilities.
Her journey with Olympic lifting began with her drive to become better and compete in CrossFit, so she invested in a coach to learn the proper technique and positions. She never thought that she'd love the sport as much as she does and continue to regularly incorporate it as a staple in her training routine. She recently obtained her coaching credentials through USA Weightlifting, but has been already coaching the Olympic lifts in her CrossFit classes.
Olympic lifting is one of the few things she wishes she had begun sooner because she's seen such a benefit for increasing her performance and conditioning... plus, lifting heavy weight overhead is super fun and so empowering!
She believes that with hard work, determination, and consistency, there are no limits to what you can achieve. In her spare time, you will most likely find her lifting heavy things, competing in CrossFit, and eating carbs!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (Faqs)

While not necessary, weightlifting shoes or shoes with a heel elevation will be helpful as we continue progressing through the snatch and clean. However, if you're just beginning, training shoes will work just as well, but we wouldn't recommend running shoes for this program!

Other equipment that isn't necessary but may be helpful will be a weightlifting belt, knee sleeves, and/or weightlifting straps.

The short answer is, yes! We will continue to work upon mobility as we progress through the program, and a mobility routine will be provided to you (that is heavily encouraged to do daily!).

Olympic lifting challenges ankle, hip, and thoracic mobility, as well as promoting shoulder stability. We'll learn to progress through the various positions to promote mobility & stability, but this will be a gradual process and you won't need to have amazing mobility to start out.

Olympic lifting and strength training in general can be dangerous if proper technique isn't applied and if you overload the individual too quickly. However, the injury rates for Olympic weightlifting are low in comparison to contact-based sports.

This program takes a progressive approach to learning the foundations and proper positioning of Olympic weightlifting. Weight will only be added to the bar once the athlete has demonstrated proper positions and handling of the movement patterns.

No, you do not need an existing membership to sign up. Welcome to our community!

Olympic lifting is excellent for improving strength, muscle mass, power & speed, sports performance, and even flexibility, making it a great addition to any training program. You can expect to improve in all of these areas upon completion of this 12-week program and even in the future if you continue to incorporate Olympic lifting (we hope so!).

Even more importantly, you'll gain confidence in yourself and your own abilities!

It depends on the frequency, volume, and amount of work that is being performed in the program. Generally speaking, it is okay to incorporate (and is actually encouraged) accessory movements for building muscle mass and strength, as it will benefit the Olympic lifts.

If you're concerned about combining the two programs together, send us a message by filling out the form below and we'll be able to give you better insight and direction!

No! Olympic lifting can be for everyone. Since this program is focused on building the foundation and learning the basics, everyone will be learning something new.

We would encourage you (along with everyone in the program) to continue practicing what Coach Kelly is teaching and programming outside of the in person sessions to further instill the movements. This'll help to reinforce the movement patterns and allow your brain time to learn this new skill.

No problem! We will adjust your current membership and pro-rate your payment as needed so that your membership will switch over to the Olympic clinic on August 22, 2023.
